The Christmas festivities start during the beginning of December in Nicaragua. On December 7th it is Griteria. At 6pm everyone pours into the streets to shout and sing. It is a really noisy night with caroling and firecrackers exploding. On December 8th Purisimas are started. These are mini celebrations involving a huge nativity scene, firecrackers, food, gifts, and singing.
The most important day towards the end of the month is December 24th. Everyone goes to a midnight mass. Afterwards, there is a huge dinner for the adults.
